Det främmande fäderneslandet

Det främmande fäderneslandet took place in connection to the major music festival Peace & Love in Borlänge in the summer of 2010. A military tent at a public square was the base for our program. I had invited artists who worked with nationalistic icons: Poet Daniel Boyacioglu performed his interpretation of Völuspá from The poetic Edda, Leif Elggren made a collaboration with the 17th century king Karl XII through a radio transmitter, Sandra Isacsson performed march songs inspired by her stay with the Swedish army in Afghanistan and Dorinel Marc spoke about ritual sacrifice throughout history. My main interest was to see what these icons and phenomenon could tell us that the right wing nationalistic movement neglect and how those stories could influence the public discussions on the subjects of nationalism and cultural heritage.
